1st day of school 2010

September 7th was the 1st day of school this year. The Fine Arts program that Belle and Nathaniel are in, changed things around. Up until this point, there was one class- per grade and they were just all move up together. This year they tried to mix things up by creating split classes....so there would be 2 of each split classes. Nathaniel is in a grade 4/5 split (he is in grade 5) and Belle is in a grade 6/7 split (she is in grade 6). Because the kids did not know what class they would be in, the school posted class lists out side the school, before school started so that everyone knew where to go.


Addie is starting grade 11. I can't believe that she is just one year away from graduation.....it is crazy. She is really starting to be a young adult every day!

Redoing the Floor



This is what our floor looked like at the front entrance to the house. It is the original floor making it over 50 years old, and wood flooring at the entrance to a house in a rainy climate is not a good thing...so needless to say the floor looked horrible, thus we decided to rip it up and put in ceramic tile.

Addie and I started at about noon one day with a hammer and a chisel and started ripping up the floor. It took us about 7 hours to get it all up. The floor was rotted in so many places that it just snapped apart, but would not pull up in one piece.

But we got it all done....though I am not sure that I can get Addie to help me with a project like that again.
Ramon was in charge of laying the new tile....Macie and Belle were more than willing to help Ramon with that job. We got it all laid in one day, but the thin set that Ramon mixed, wasn't mixed right so half of the tiles did not set, so they had to be ripped up again, cleaned off and reset.....after about two weeks we finally got the flooring done....I will have to post pictures of the completed floor

Addie's 1st Choir performance of the school year

This year Addie is part of the Senior Choir at school. They had their "1st night" performance on the 27 of Oct to show off their talents. They did pretty good. We are looking forward to hearing them at the Christmas concert.

This year things for Halloween were pretty quiet, we didn't do too much with it being on a Sunday. The kids dressed up for school parties and we did have a trunk or treat at the stake center, but it was raining that night, so it didn't last too long

1st Snow 2010

The snow started flying early this year. With in one week we had two heavy snow fall warnings...and it's not even December yet. The 1st snow fall was on the 19 of November and the second was on the 25th. Along with the snow came some really cold temps......now I know that -10 with a wind chill of -19 is not that cold....but remember we are on the west coast and it is not suppose to snow let alone get cold (or so that is what natives here keep telling me...in the 11 years that we have leaved here we have had snow and a lot of it some years and cold temps every year!) Anyways the kids had a great time in the snow building a snow fort and getting the hill ready for their toboggan hill, but their joy was short lived as we have had rain since Saturday and the past two day has been heavy rain so all the snow is gone.

The POOL

So some friends of ours were moving to Toronto and didn't want to take their pool with them, so they gave us their pool. This pool has turned in to an appendage for Belle and Nathaniel. They couldn't wait to swim in the pool. The minute it arrived at our home, they wanted to set it up and fill it and swim that day. They were not impressed when they found out a pool that size take two days to fill.


Finally the pool was filled and they swim every day, no matter what the temp is out side. They come in and are so cold that their lips are blue! But they want to go right back out and swim. They are even trying to talk me into keeping it up through out the winter....... good luck with that thought kids!

Canada Day 2010

So for Canada Day we had planned to go to Harrison Hot Springs and spend the day in the lake swimming then stay and watch the fireworks over the water. Well surprise surprise when we woke up...it was raining....and raining hard. So that ment no swimming. The kids were a little sad about not swimming so we decided to jump in the car and head towards the interior and find some water and some sun. We drove up highway 3 towards Kamaloops. When we got to Merrit there was sun and a sign that said "Logan Lake" so we turned off the highway and headed for the lake. Well, when we got there it turned out to be a little town built around a little lake made from mine run off water (not suitable for swimming in). So the kids were sad. We stopped at a play ground there and let the kids play for a little while after being in the car for three hours while we decided what to do next.

It was about 3 in the afternoon now, so we decided to turn around and head back to Harrison and at least catch the fireworks. When we got there, the clouds had parted....it wasn't sunny, but it wasn't raining either. The kids headed for the beach and played in the water and made sand castles until dark, then we watched the fireworks before heading home. A very interesting but fun day!

Weekend On The Island

So for Mom Bandong's Birthday this year we went to Courtney, BC on the Island and spent a few days. We rented a little house in the center of town called "The blueberry cottage" From there, we spend each of the three days that we were there doing site seeing. It rained most of the time we were there so we spent most of the time in museums not at the beach like we would have wanted. But we had a great time anyways!

Us on the ferry to Nanimo. We left very early in the morning and the only time we saw the sun was on the way to Courtney.

One of the museums that we visited was the air force museum in Comox. There they had an ejection seat that you could sit in...The kids thought that it was great.
We did stop off at a park near the beach when the weather cleared (okay it was just a break in the rain.....but it was still misty) We walked around and enjoyed the views. While we were there we came across a group of dear just sitting around. We were able to get really close to them and they just sat there. I was able to take a lot of great pictures without using the zoom len. You can see the dear in the background. We got a lot closer than this, but Mom didn't want to get too close.


On the last day, after not really being able to do much except for being inside, we decided to just live on the wild side and we went mini golfing in the pouring rain while we waited for the ferry we were booked in to take. Mom used an umbrella, but the rest of us just got soaked. It was fun!
And that was our trip to the Island!

Temple Youth Celebraton

With the Temple Opening the beginning of May, President Monson gave the go ahead for the youth of the stakes in the Temple district to have a special celebration to bring the youth closer together and to increase the love the youth have for the Temple. The celebration lasted for three days and ended with the youth performing a 90 minute production about the growth of the church in BC. It was a great performance.

Addie was in two groups. The 1st one was in the multicultural event in which she performed with a group doing a traditional dance from the Philippines called Tinikling. she did an awesome job despite being injured. During the practice on the Friday her foot was caught in the sticks and she came crashing down and sprained her ankle really bad. The 1st aid attendants put ice on her ankle and put it up, but when I picked her up that night she was unable to walk. Everyone figured that there was no way she would dance the next day because of the severity of the injury. When we got home, Ramon gave her a blessing in which she was promised that she would be able to dance. And dance she did, everyone who saw had bad she was injured were amazed that she was walking....let alone dancing..both at the rehearsal and the final performance this included the running off stage after each of her performances, running back stage to the changing area and getting changed for her next appearance... Though once everything was over she dropped and her ankle took three weeks for it to heal.



































The second part of the show she was in was our stake performance where the girls were dressed in "flapper" dresses and did a little dance to a song that described what was happening during that time (the 30's) both in the church and out of the church.


They ended the program with all the youth on stage surrounding a temple that was raised while they all sang.



It was an awesome show and a great experience for the youth. The highlight was performing for the Prophet!
